Bovine Gallstones FAQ's

Bovine gallstones, or Calculus Bovis, are formations of compacted and precipitated bile fluids found in the animal’s gallbladder. The formations can vary greatly in size and shape and their availability is directly correlated to the age and diet of the animal. Older specimens tend to have a higher probability of developing gallstones. 

Grade A gallstones are the most valuable and are characterized by their orange and light brown color. However, some stones may have a dark brown or even black shell but still maintain an orange or light brown interior. These are still regarded as grade A stones. 

Even though complete, unbroken stones are preferred, those with chipped ends or even broken in large pieces still retain their grade A value. 

Grade B stones are less valuable and tend to be black on the outside and also black on the inside. There is no need to break a stone in half, by chipping off an end of the stone you can clearly see whether the inside is orange or black. 

The gallstones are formed and stored within the gallbladder. The extraction process of the stones is extremely easy and staightforward. Please refer to the Resource Center for a step-by-step instruction for this process. 

The value of the stones varies according to the grade. For a personalized preliminary quote, please send us a picture of the dried stones on a scale so we can assess the quality and weight. A quote will be sent to you directly via email for that specific batch. 

Since at Dante Global we like to do business personally, we prefer transactions of 2 Oz or above. If you currently have less than 2 oz and would like to sell, please contact us to see if arrangements can be made that will benefit both parties. 

Once you have made sure your stones are completely dry, please send us a picture of the stones on a scale so our team can proceed to a preliminary analysis and quote. You will get this quote via email. If you agree to our offering and would like to proceed with the transaction, a member of our team will make arrangements to have a representative pick up the amount and provide payment.
